Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to confirm that their submission complies with all of the following items. Submissions that do not follow these requirements may be returned to the authors.
- The submission has not been published previously and is not under consideration by another journal, unless an explanation is supplied in Comments to the Editor.
- The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word or RTF format.
- URLs have been provided for references where available.
- The submission follows the required 12-point font and places illustrations, figures and tables at the appropriate points in the text.
- The manuscript complies with NJCR's stylistic and bibliographic requirements.
- A completed Publishing Agreement is included for every author.
Key requirements
- Maximum length: 7,000 words, including the abstract, acknowledgements and references.
- Abstract: no more than 200 words, followed by exactly five keywords.
- Review: double-blind assessment by at least two independent reviewers.
- Publication: quarterly in March, June, September and December.
Editorial standards
Articles must be original and plagiarism is prohibited. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material and for acknowledging all third-party content and sources.
Abstract and keywords
The abstract must not exceed 200 words and should briefly state the background, methods, results, implications and recommendations. Five keywords must appear immediately after the abstract.
Word limit
Articles must not exceed 7,000 words, including the abstract, acknowledgements and references. Authors must provide an accurate word count.
Technical specifications
- Use British English and A4 page format.
- Set margins at 2.5 cm and line spacing at 1.5.
- Use Times New Roman, 12-point font for the manuscript and 11-point font for references.
- Supply a separate author-information page containing the title, authors' names, affiliations, email addresses and ORCID identifiers.
- Number tables, figures and illustrations correctly and embed them at the appropriate places, or indicate their intended placement where supplied separately.
- Do not use endnotes or footnotes.
- Do not insert page numbers.
- Ensure the manuscript has been professionally proofread.
Headings
Use no more than three unnumbered levels, flush left and without terminal full stops: MAIN HEADLINE, Headline and Sub-headline. A heading should not exceed ten words.
Citations and references
NJCR uses APA 7th edition. Every cited work must appear in the reference list, except material such as personal communication that APA excludes from the list. Authors should limit excessive self-citation to protect the credibility and independence of their work.
Peer-review process
Submissions first undergo editorial screening. Suitable manuscripts are evaluated by at least two independent experts under a double-blind process. Reviewers are normally given 15 days to submit their reports, while the complete review process may take up to 60 days.
Publishing agreement
Each author must complete the NJCR Publishing Agreement and upload it during online submission. A manuscript will not proceed to review until all required agreements are received.
Article Processing Charge
An article processing charge of ₦35,000 applies only to accepted manuscripts. There is no submission fee. See the Article Processing Charge and Refund Policy for payment and refund conditions.
